They're goofy, they're shoddy, they're Mentok Movies! Activision's "The Movies" software has inflicted a whole new dimension of personal creativity on the human race.

Keep Your Expectations Low

Welcome, loyal readers, to my "The Movies" movies site.

For those of you unfamiliar with "The Movies", it's an Activision movie-studio sim game that includes utilities to create your own animated features.

The animation tools in the game are simplified and relatively dummy-proof. Essentially, you piece together a plot by choosing from a menu of stock scenes e.g. person walking, person knocking on a door, two people talking. Then you add in your own costumes, backgrounds, props and custom-created sim-type characters.

The selection of stock scenes is quite limited. Nonetheless, many people around the world have become quite resourceful and creative in using the program to cobble together rather impressive works of animated film-making.

I'm not yet one of those people. I've only been playing with the program for a couple weeks. I have, however, learned the basics of the sound-dubbing feature, as you will soon see.

So here you go, my first attempt, Chemical Jody with sound, a perfectly awful '50's style sci-fi movie.

It will get better eventually, I promise. Your constructive comments would be most helpful and welcome.

I tried to watch it, but I have dial-up so I never got past the green screen. Just kept re-buffering till it froze.

I'm sure it's funny though.

Good luck with your movies, and the new blog,
~ Ash

My browser isn't configured to use that kind of thing, and I completely refuse to use Internet Explorer for even one minute.

Microsoft already bought me off with their fancy buttered treats and expensive furniture. But they'll never get what they're really after: FireFox.

Freedom to the squares!

Now where does one go to download your first film?

You mentioned something about downloading instead of clicking on the link...

And I translated your little quote, by the way.

And yes...I blushed. ;)

No movie?
